Hanuman, also known as Mahavira or Bajrangbali, is a Hindu god and an ardent devotee of the god Rama. He is a central figure in the Hindu epic Ramayana and its various versions. As he is Chiranjeevi, he is also mentioned in several other texts, including Mahabharata, the various Puranas and some Jain texts. vanara (monkey), Hanuman participated in Rama's war against the demon king Ravana. Several texts also present him as an incarnation of the god Shiva. He is the son of Anjana and Kesari, and is also described as the son of the wind-god Vayu, who according to several stories, played a role in his birth.
According to one theory, the name "Hanuman" derives from the proto-Dravidian word for male monkey (ana-mandi), which was later Sanskritized to "Hanuman" (see historical development below). Linguistic variations of "Hanuman" include Hanumat, Anuman (Tamil), Hanumanthudu (Telugu), Anoman (Indonesian), Andoman (Malay) and Hunlaman (Lao). Other names of Hanuman include:
Anjaneya, Anjaniputra, 'Anjaneyar (Tamil), Anjaneyudu (Telugu), all meaning "the son of Anjana". Kesari Nandan ("son of Kesari")
Marutinandan, Pavanputra, Vaataatmaja: "the son of the wind-god Vayu"; the deity who carried Hanuman to Anjana's womb.

Hanuman is a Hindu deity and an ardent devotee(param bhakt) of Lord Rama. In Ramayana, Hanuman has shown his great powers, celibacy, strength, courage, wisdom and devotion to Lord Rama.
Hanuman is considered an avatar or reincarnation of Lord Shiva and also known as "MARUTI" or "KESARI NANDAN" and "ANJANEYA". He got his name "Anjaneya" because hanuman was born to Anjana, who was cursed with the birth of a Vanara on the earth.
